Quick answer: The most comfortable months for a Rajasthan motorcycle tour are November to February, with October and March close behind. Jaipur’s daytime highs ease from about 32°C to 27°C through November and sit around 22–26°C from December to February, with almost no rain. We run our Royal Rajasthan tour in every month except May and June, when the heat is too much. July and August are the wettest months, so expect rain if you ride then.

Weather figures are long-term Jaipur averages from the India Meteorological Department (temperatures 1952–2009, rainfall 1969–2011). Rajasthan is big, so the desert west and the south differ a little.

How we ride Rajasthan

  • Start times: in the hot months we leave at 6:00 AM, reach the destination early and rest through the afternoon. In the cold season we leave around 9:00 AM.
  • Daylight: we plan every day’s ride to arrive before sunset.
  • Fuel: fuel stops are coordinated in real time, and everyone fuels up together.
  • Roads: really good, apart from a few small patches where road widening is under way.
  • Fog: in our experience it appears only in December and January, at night when it is cold. The weather service also notes that winter mornings can see mist or fog for two to three days after a passing weather system.

Why November to February is the sweet spot

Winter skies are mainly clear on roughly 68–75% of days and rain is slight. The catch is the cold: January nights average about 7.8°C in Jaipur, and in rare cold spells the temperature has dropped below freezing. Layer up, especially for the 9:00 AM starts.

Why we skip May and June

Hot, dry winds called “loo” can make daytime activity hard, and heat-wave conditions average about two days a season. Dust storms occur from March to July and peak in May, when the IMD says daytime highs hover between 40°C and 47°C.

A dust storm we couldn’t ride through

Dust storms aren’t common on our rides, but we have met one in Jaisalmer in September, and it was genuinely scary. The wind was blowing at high speed, so we pulled in at a nearby establishment, took shelter and waited it out. Once it passed, we got back on the road.

Riding in the monsoon

The monsoon normally reaches Jaipur around 25 June and withdraws around 15 September. July and August bring roughly 200 mm of rain each, on about 15 rainy days. We do run the tour in these months, and our riders carry rain gear.

Festivals and crowds

Festival dates change every year, so confirm them with Rajasthan Tourism before you plan. The Pushkar Camel Fair in 2026 is announced for about 17 to 24 November, ending on Kartik Purnima, Tuesday 24 November. Jaisalmer’s Desert Festival runs for three days in late January or early February, and January and February are Jaisalmer’s peak crowd months, so book stays early.

The route, and custom trips

Our Royal Rajasthan Motorcycle Tour is a 12-day tour starting in Jaipur. It typically covers Jaipur, Pushkar, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Jaisalmer and Bikaner, but we also build custom packages, so the route depends on you. ILTR designs and leads these India motorcycle expeditions.
