Motorcycle Tour in India Cost: What’s Included, What’s Not

Quick answer: India Loves To Ride (ILTR) guided motorcycle tours start from approximately US$1,400 and go up to approximately US$3,100 for the 14-day Himalayan tour. The price covers the motorcycle, a guide, a mechanic, a backup vehicle, stays, breakfast and dinner, and all internal permits. It does not cover flights, visa, travel insurance, lunches or personal expenses. Prices are approximate because every tour can be customised.

Key takeaways

  • ILTR tours run 11 to 14 days. Prices start at about US$1,400 (North East), US$1,500 (Rajasthan and Western Ghats) and US$3,100 (Himalayan).
  • The exact price depends on the package you choose and how it is customised.
  • Fuel is included on custom long tours. Lunches, flights, visa and travel insurance are not.
  • Tips are optional and up to you.
  • Riders who do not ride can join as a pillion or in the backup vehicle.

How much does each ILTR tour cost?

ILTR’s four guided tours are priced from approximately US$1,400 to US$3,100. Each price is approximate, so treat it as a starting point for a quote.

Tour Route Length Approx. cost from
Explore Untamed India Guwahati, Tawang, Ziro, Mon, Kaziranga 11 days US$1,400
Royal Rajasthan Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer 12 days, 7 riding days US$1,500
Western Ghats Kochi, Munnar, Wayanad, Ooty, Mysore 12 days US$1,500
Epic Himalayan Delhi, Shimla, Kaza, Leh, Srinagar 14 days, 9 riding days US$3,100

Why is the Himalayan tour the most expensive?

It is the longest tour at 14 days and crosses high passes such as Khardung La at 5,359 metres. The price includes special permits for restricted areas and a medical kit with an oxygen cylinder, and you choose between a Royal Enfield 500cc and a Himalayan 411cc.

What does the tour price include?

Every ILTR tour includes the following:

  • A Royal Enfield motorcycle for the whole trip
  • An English-speaking guide and a mechanic with spare parts
  • A backup vehicle that riders can hop into whenever they want a break
  • Accommodation as listed in the itinerary
  • Breakfast and dinner
  • Ground transfers, and all internal permits arranged by ILTR

Fuel is included on ILTR’s custom long tours.

Each tour then adds its own extras:

  • Himalayan: mineral water, a medical kit with oxygen cylinder, and monument entry fees (camera fees excluded).
  • Rajasthan: stays in hotels and desert camps, entry fees to forts and palaces, a camel safari in Jaisalmer and a boat ride in Udaipur.
  • Western Ghats: wildlife safaris and guided tours, with stays in boutique hotels, homestays and houseboats.
  • North East: mineral water and a basic medical kit.

What is not included in the price?

Plan for these separately:

  • Flights. International and domestic flights are not included. ILTR can help you book domestic flights.
  • Visa. The Indian e-Tourist Visa costs about US$25 for 30 days (July to March), US$10 (April to June), US$40 for one year and US$80 for five years for most nationalities. A small bank charge is added and fees can vary by nationality, so check the official e-Visa portal.
  • Travel and medical insurance. Bring your own, and check that it covers motorcycle riding.
  • Lunches and other meals not listed in the itinerary.
  • Personal expenses and alcohol.
  • Motorcycle damage. On the Himalayan, Western Ghats and North East tours, damage to the motorcycle is the rider’s responsibility.
  • Extensions and the unexpected. Itinerary extensions cost extra, as do costs from natural calamities, strikes or other events outside ILTR’s control.

Tips are optional and entirely your choice. Our tour pages suggest about US$100 for the crew as a guide.

Is a guided tour worth the cost?

A guided tour bundles what is hardest to arrange alone: a suitable motorcycle, fuel, a mechanic, a backup vehicle, permits and a guide who knows the road. On your own, you would source and pay for each of those separately, and a breakdown or a missing permit becomes your problem to solve.

What ILTR’s riders have seen

For a French group of nine riders on an Umling La trip, ILTR arranged flights, stays, motorcycles, fuel, tour leads, a mechanic, a backup vehicle and ILP permits, Delhi to Delhi. Having everything handled in one package is what lets a group focus on riding. Customising is normal: ILTR has also arranged several trips for Siemens Energy groups to Spiti and Arunachal Pradesh.
