What to carry for your Ladakh trip

When traveling to Ladakh, it is important to pack only essential items as basic facilities like ATM, mobile connectivity, mechanics, fuel stations, eateries, and accommodation can still be scarce. To make sure you have packed all the necessary items, here is a checklist.

Clothing : It is important to pack clothes in layers to be able to adjust to changing temperatures.

Water : Carry packed mineral water to avoid hard water on the stomach. Drinking water at regular intervals can also help with AMS.

For Summers – Pack plenty of regular cotton clothes like T-Shirts and Jeans, a couple of pairs of thermals, some light woolens, a heavy windproof and waterproof jacket, gloves, warm socks, and caps. carry juicy fruits like oranges, berry etc winter liners for the windy nights. a good pair of sunglasses can be very useful on a sunny day, keeping yourself hydrated. bikers recommended to ride with a hydration bag while riding

For Winter – Carry all your heavy woollens as temperature can drop to -25 degrees Celsius. Accessories: Sunscreen lotion with the highest SPF, a good pair of sunglasses, woollen gloves, a cap, and a muffler are necessary. Sundries: Cold cream, lip balm, moisturizer, mustard oil, tooth brush, tooth paste, comb, soap, toilet paper, face wash, shampoo, towel, and deodorant should be packed. Eatables: Dry fruits, chocolates, sugar-free, tea bags, coffee pouches, fresh fruit or packed fruit juice, and Maggie or Cup Noodles. Water: Carry packed mineral water to avoid hard water on the stomach. Drinking water at regular intervals can also help with AMS.

For Monsoon – Due to uneven rains terrain is very challenging and dangerous in the rainy season, carry a good pair rain coats, riding jacket to have rain liners, pack your stuff such that water doesn’t enters even after heavy continuous rainfall, always check with your hotel and booking agent for regular and correct updates regarding roads and weather

Medicines – Diamox, headache, upset stomach, fever, cold and cough medicines, a pack of glucose, and a small medicine box with basic medicines like pain balm or sprays, Band-Aid, Dettol, antiseptic cream, and crepe bandage should be packed.

Electronics – Chargers for all electronic devices, spare battery for camera, power bank, and spare memory cards should be packed. Keep extra
charging and data transfer wires, phone charger and mount for bikers

Documents – One government-issued identity card, print out of itinerary, copies of flight tickets, hotel reservation slips, emergency contacts, medical insurance, inner line permit, and passport size photographs should be packed.

Cash – Carry enough cash to last until the next ATM as ATMs in Ladakh are still rare. Credit cards may or may not be accepted.

Phone Connectivity – Only post-paid connections will work in Ladakh. Get a BSNL / MTNL / Airtel connection if you cannot stay off the grid. Wifi network is slow in most remote locations
